Dear Members,

The upcoming fall and winter holiday season can be a joyful one as we gather to celebrate with those we love. It can also be challenging as we may have differences of opinion with individuals, Couples, colleagues and within our communities. The good news is there are paths to connecting with people who have another point of view by discovering what we have in common and learning from our differences. One thing we all share is the need to be heard and understood.

“Listening for understanding rather than agreement in a relationship can help people comprehend each other’s perspectives and feelings without needing to agree with them. Understanding can help us to comprehend how people can have such diverse reactions to the same situation. It can help us appreciate the complexity of individual perspectives and remind us that our viewpoint isn’t the only way to see things” (Author unknown)

Fortunately, as members of CCC, we have access to a superpower that allows us to come together with others with whom we might not otherwise connect. This superpower is the art and practice of listening. It is one of the “Possibilities for Connection” that we began to explore at our Convention in Princeton last July and the subject of one of the new training videos on Reflective Listening, recently released to the member community.

In this issue we invite you to transform conflict into connection using curiosity and listening to understand and respect the differences that make for our rich and diverse world.
