Behind the Curtain: The Board of Directors

Who is on CCC’s Board of Directors and what does the Board do?

The following is from our Executive Quartet: Chair Couple Bebe & Mike Brusky and President Couple Holly & Tim Miller:

Essentially, we are YOU!

There is no separation! The Board is a circle made up of member couples who love CCC, just like you .(CCC is probably the only organization in the world where leadership roles are performed by Couples instead of individuals!) We are currently fulfilling a commitment to contribute to the growth and sustainability of this organization that we love, along with other couples who bring their diverse interests and skills to the table. Together we manage the business side of CCC and support our membership though our various Committees that are responsible for creating new programming, tools and technology that promote couple growth and community connection. We look forward to sustaining and growing our community of couples that are a source of peace and harmony in the world. To meet our current Board members CLICK HERE

Why and how can we join the Board or a Committee?

Couples join the Board and Committees for various reasons. Some have unique gifts and talents and are called to share and contribute. Others want to be at the source of generating and shaping the future of CCC; some wish to give back as a way of acknowledging how CCC has contributed to their couple. Some couples who have sourced their local circles look to grow and develop their couple at a higher level. Some couples join because they simply enjoy meeting and collaborating with more Couples who share the adventure of CCC!

Ultimately, taking on accountability as a couple is a great opportunity for training and practicing CCC distinctions. Each couple gets one vote on the Board, so participation really calls “Couple” forward and provides a lot of practice in setting differences aside and producing rapid alignment in service of a bigger purpose.

What are current opportunities to join the Board?

There will be up to 5 open Board of Directors seats starting with the August 2023-2024 Board year, as well as the officer roles of Treasurer Couple, Vice President Couple, and President Couple. Newly elected couples will begin a three-year board term, beginning with the vote of the general membership on August 6th, 2023. While officers are usually also current board members, it is not actually a requirement of our bylaws. So, the officer terms are a bit more flexible and can begin and end whenever voted on by the Board. Interested in joining?

What are some recent examples of CCC Board accomplishments over the last few years?

The most important and impactful accomplishment over the last year has been the development and redesign of the CCC website. We are excited and proud of this accomplishment and are anticipating it being a major resource for our members and a platform for outreach to non-members, where we can share more of what we have to contribute to the world.

Prior to that, through the Training and Development Committee, we held the first public training to include non-members, which also served as an introduction to some of our distinctions. This has now become a semi-annual opportunity to reach other committed couples in the world.

In keeping with our commitment to organizational integrity, we have focused on being more accessible and a resource to the Source Couples by way of collaboration with the CCC Ambassadors.

What are the current goals of the Board?

A primary focus of the Board currently is the 2023 return to an in-person Convention.

Additionally, we have been spending a lot of time this year doing the foundational work of making sure the long-time practices of the organization are written down as official policies and procedures. We believe this work is needed to support a future in which rapid growth of the organization is possible. The CCC Board has been talking for at least a dozen years about how to shift our growth model to take advantage of advances in technology, etc. Although this foundational work is not the most exciting, we see our job right now is to make the foundation (and our organizational identity) strong so that the next iterations of the Board can build upon it.

Another current focus is to make sure that the website is user friendly, well maintained and its’ use is promoted within the membership as a social platform for cross-circle interaction.

What are the future goals of the Board?

The next steps with the CCC website are:

  • enhance our ability to deliver content to non-members through the public-facing site
  • maximizing our reach to members and non-members with the ability to send similar messages through different channels (email, text, social media, print newsletter), allowing constituents to opt in/out of the channels they prefer

Get a better understanding of reasons couples leave CCC and use the data to improve member retention.

Get a better understanding of the effectiveness of the Ambassador-Board-Circle (ABC Quartet) program in being a resource for the Source Couples, and what would best support the Source Couples and Circles.

Delivering top-quality Couple-focused content to the world (including our related distinctions). Increasing the size of our membership is not the goal itself, but rather will be looked at as a measure/indicator of how well we are fulfilling our purpose in the world.

What it actually looks like to be at work on these responsibilities is typically:

  • Monthly meetings where we review the progress of committees and special projects
  • Writing / revising / adopting policies that ensure smooth and continuous operations
  • Twice per year, extended workdays, where we review/revise the organization’s purpose, vision, and mission, drawing upon these to develop goals and plan our strategies and tactics.
  • Planning for the future of the board and organization – finding and developing future contributors (board and committee members, donors, etc.).

In summary, the Board is responsible for the following:

  • Oversight of Finances: The Board holds itself accountable to the needs of the Organization by ensuring that CCC has the resources it needs to operate, and that the resources are used lawfully and in accordance with the bylaws and the Organization’s priorities.
  • Organizational Integrity: The Board, at its discretion can set up or dis-assemble committees as needed and is responsible for providing required resources to the Organization. Board Couples act as representatives of the General Membership and continually evaluate the effectiveness of programs, structures, policies, etc.  This also includes a degree of coordination across the Board and Member Circles to ensure that the integrity of the Organization is ongoingly present.
  • Planning and executing the Organization’s work: The Board has a major responsibility for the fulfillment of the organization’s charitable purpose out in the world. To that end we plan the short-term (1 year), medium-term (next 5 years) and long-term (next 25 year) goals for the Organization.
