Letters to the Editor

Dear CCC Community,

Both members of our Couple are cancer survivors. We know first-hand the trials and tribulations of going through the medical, physical, mental and social steps that may result in a cure and/or a remission. Today we pay tribute to a CCC Couple that is undergoing these steps with grace and courage.

Genevieve Nixon and Michael Williams of the Baltimore Reimagined Circle have been filling their lives with creating a family through adoption at the same time as Genevieve’s heroic efforts in fighting cancer. Fortunately, she has a partner whose devotion to her and their family assists her to concentrate on her treatment and care.

In September, Michael and Genevieve asked us to be their one-way coaching partner. Our cancer and CCC experiences have helped us coach them as they ride the roller coaster of emotions that come with this journey. Their declaration is“we cherish our connection.” At the end, they make a heart with their thumbs and forefingers.

With two young ones, ages six and four, there is a lot for Michael to do on a daily basis in getting them to school, etc. Genevieve has had to be in the hospital many times. The chemo, processes and pain have made her weary. They have been the example of 100% + 100% = 100% Couple as they each take on 100% commitment to their family–Genevieve working on her health and Michael keeping the family going.

They have received guidance from their doctors and, at this point, are seeking second opinions. What we have observed are two people deeply in love, struggling to accept what the future will bring. They are conducting their lives as Couple, and communication has become the most important element.

Accomplishing Genevieve’s bucket list has become a priority for the next couple of months. Michael has Genevieve’s back in this, and their family will accomplish as much as they can with all the love and joy they can create.

We want to let the CCC community know their story and be able to praise and appreciate their way of being. We are blessed to be with this couple.

Best regards,
John Marra & Karen May
