Get Inspired By the Alphabet Dating Game!

Romance and fun come in all forms! Do you and your partner plan a weekly or bi-weekly date to keep your Couple connected? Ever feel like you’re running out of ideas for what to do on your next date? Here’s something that has the potential to really boost your fun and spirit of adventure: Alphabet Dating.

The basic idea is that the theme of the date is determined by the letter of the alphabet that is chosen. There are several ways you can approach this: by either starting at the beginning of the alphabet with the letter “A” and then moving through the letters in order, or by cutting out all the letters, putting them in a hat, then drawing a letter.

First, flip a coin to see who starts the game. Then, pick a letter. The possibilities are endless, but if you need extra inspiration click on this link to find a wealth of great ideas for each letter of the alphabet.

We like to keep it a surprise, so the one who dreams up the date surprises the other with the details when the date begins.

So far we have had such fun with this game. I volunteered to start with the letter A. Richard had asked me several times when we were on vacation to teach him how to draw. So I thought “how perfect, I’ll create an art class!” I got out two pads of paper, two pencils and erasers, and set up a simple still life. I gave him a little demo and then he tried his own version with coaching as we went along. It was an enriching and wonderful way to spend an evening together at home.

Alphabet dating ideas aren’t limited to activities, either! It’s a great way to find new restaurants in your area that start with each letter or try new foods such as Ethiopian or French. You can theme your date meals to the letters easily with food types as well–Greek for G, Indian for I, Lebanese for L, and so on. And if you want to keep the fun going, you can go back through the alphabet once you have finished–simply trade turns and you will get a whole new set of results! Whoever started with A now starts with B. That way you each get a turn to plan for each letter.

This coming week, it’s my turn to play with C. We recently did the Habits Worksheet on the theme “living into our dreams for the future.” In looking at new habits we could create around this dreaming process, we concluded that doing more vision boards would be helpful–so voila! Our next date will be “collage” or “create.” We are already living into new possibilities out of this fantastic game.

Hope you find some joy and fun with this too!
